Forging a Path: From Passion to Leadership in Electrical Excellence

Nov 14, 2024

At Servelec, we believe in fostering talent, promoting leadership, and achieving excellence in electrical installations through the dedication of skilled team members like Siyasisanda. Her journey exemplifies Servelec’s commitment to empowering individuals and providing opportunities for growth and development within our projects, from electrical installations to advanced water treatment solutions.

Meet Siyasisanda Ngaka, proudly representing Servelec in our workshop.

Inspiration and the Servelec Journey

For Siyasisanda, her path into electrical work was inspired by her late father, who owned an electrical repair shop. “Growing up, I’d spend my holidays helping my father with electrical repairs,” she recalls. “This early exposure sparked my interest and set me on the path I’m on today.” Her journey with Servelec began in September 2023 as a panel wirewoman, and her skills and dedication quickly led to a promotion to Artisan Electrician by July 2024.

Qualifications and Skills Development

At Servelec, we prioritise skill-building through hands-on experience, which has proven instrumental in Siyasisanda’s success. With training in reading technical drawings and wiring panels, she passed her trade certification with confidence. “Learning these skills with Servelec directly contributed to me passing my trade certification,” she shares. “It’s one thing to study these techniques, but applying them on real projects made all the difference.” This approach ensures our team is equipped with the knowledge and skills to execute projects with precision and reliability.

Mentorship and Collaboration

Mentorship is essential to Servelec’s culture, providing guidance and support as team members transition from skilled technicians to effective leaders. Siyasisanda credits mentors like Erik Roelofse, who supported her from project planning to execution, and Johan Muller, who shared valuable insights on plant operations. “Erik was with me every step of the way, from planning materials to preparing tools for the job. And Johan’s knowledge of plant operations added to my confidence and skills,” she reflects.

Lessons in Leadership and Adaptability

Servelec encourages leadership, adaptability, and problem-solving in all our team members. Siyasisanda has embraced these values, sharing, “This project taught me to lead, to listen, to prepare, and to make quick decisions. One memorable moment was our first I/O testing—everything went smoothly, which was incredibly rewarding.” These experiences have prepared her to manage complex tasks and make informed decisions, demonstrating Servelec’s commitment to nurturing skilled, confident leaders.

Collaborating with SAI and Ndlambe Municipality

Our partnership with SAI (Sizwe Amanzi) exemplifies Servelec’s dedication to impactful, sustainable solutions. On the Ndlambe project, SAI oversees the water treatment process, while Servelec ensures that every instrument operates smoothly through our reliable electrical and solar installations. “SAI provided us with all the information about the plant and answered our questions throughout the process,” says Siyasisanda, underscoring the strong partnership between Servelec and SAI.

Working with Ndlambe Municipality, we’re proud to support a vital project that serves the community’s water needs. Mrs. Noluthando Masiza, Director of Water Treatment at Ndlambe, has expressed her satisfaction with our work and is particularly proud to see a female project manager leading this important initiative—values that resonate deeply with Servelec.

Project Outcomes and Servelec’s Role

By working closely with SAI and our partners, Servelec upholds our commitment to quality and sustainability, benefiting communities and fostering professional growth for team members like Siyasisanda. Through teamwork and expertise, we continue to make a positive impact—one successful project at a time.
